Over the past several weeks, you may have seen Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston promoting the HPW Foundation's Turkey's For The Triangle Fundraiser. However, do you know who the HPW Foundation is and what they do?

Established in the late 1990s, the HPW Foundation was created to provide our employees and sales agents opportunities to support local charities and non-profit organizations. Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston present a matching donation to the funds raised by agents and employees and doubles the number of families supported each year.

Supporting not-for-profit organizations throughout the Triangle and Central North Carolina, the HPW Foundation has donated almost $1.6 million to local organizations. Here are just a few of them:

Turkeys For The Triangle

The legendary and iconic "God Father of Soul," James Brown inspired Turkeys for the Triangle.  Upon Brown's passing, CBHPW Founder and Chairman Don Walston learned of Brown's initiative every year to provide Thanksgiving Turkeys to those in need; thus was born Turkeys for the Triangle.

With the support of CBHPW agents and employees selling raffle tickets to purchase turkeys, the HPW Foundation partners with dozens of local charities, homeless shelters, and churches to give away turkeys during the holiday season. Since beginning the operation almost 18 years ago, we have donated over 38,000 turkeys to anchor holiday meals for more than 160,000 people.  This year, the goal is to provide more the 5000 turkeys to our local community!

We are currently in our "Turkey Season," so if you would like to participate in helping local families have a safe and secure holiday, visit TurkeysForTheTriangle.com or speak with one of our agents to learn more!

Habitat For Humanity

Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.   Their vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Habitat homeowners work alongside volunteers to build their homes to gain strength, independence, and a better life for themselves and their families.  Habitat for Humanity makes no profit on the sales of any of its homes and has helped over 35 million people construct, rehabilitate or preserve homes since its founding in 1976.  Locally, Habitat for Humanity has helped more than 800 families in Wake and Johnston counties to build and purchase affordable homes.

Team Drea Foundation

Founded by Andrea Lytle Peet after being diagnosed with ALS at age 33, the Team Drea Foundation was created in 2014 to support research for a cure to this debilitating disease. Their mission is to raise awareness and inspire individuals to "live bravely, live joyfully, and appreciate the gift of life."

Andrea is currently on a mission to complete a marathon in every state while raising awareness and funds to help fight ALS.

UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center

As one of the nation's leaders in cancer treatment, research, and prevention, the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center goes a step further for its patients. They have created a support program that offers services and resources at low- or no cost to help patients and families through the treatment process.

Me Fine Foundation Inc.

Dedicated to helping families during challenging times, the Me Fine Foundation provides assistance for children and their families at the Duke Children's Hospital and the North Carolina Children's Hospital at UNC.

"Our partnership with Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston and their employees and associates will make it possible for families with critically-ill children being treated at both Duke & UNC Children's Hospitals to focus on the real job at hand… helping their children recover."

-Lisa Valentino, Director of Development Me Fine Foundation, Inc.

Military Missions In Action

Military Missions In Action serves veterans with disabilities, members of the Armed Forces, and their families by providing assistance during challenging times. They hold various programs throughout the year to support their cause, such as Operation Building Hope, Homes For Healing, Operation Warrior Golf, Military Child Access Assistance Program, and Fill The Footlocker.

Our Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston agents and employees are the backbones of our company, and their passion not only the work they do but the HPW Foundation's mission is what drives us to be better every day.

"It breaks my heart to know that there are families in our local communities who struggle to put food on the table, especially during the holidays when so many of us are celebrating with special meals," said Walston. Our first Turkeys for the Triangle distribution event was a tremendous success!

Box trucks, cargo vans, pickup trucks and SUVs lined up at our Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston corporate office to collect and deliver more than 2,500 frozen turkeys to nonprofit and military organizations across Central North Carolina.

Despite the rain and cold temperatures, it was a great day to Help People Win, a commitment our company founder and chairman and Turkeys for the Triangle founder holds near and dear.

"I'll tell you what, it's one of those things," said Don Walston. "It's hard to describe the benefit when you see someone who really appreciates what you're doing for them– it's a– I don't know how to describe it but it's a warm feeling."

A five-year partner of our Turkeys for the Triangle program, Butterball generously donated 1,500 of the 2,500 turkeys we handed out this week.

Turkeys for the Triangle will match its record-breaking donation of last year's 4,500 turkeys to nourish those in need this holiday season.

Our 2017 Turkeys for the Triangle program donated a record-breaking 4,500 turkeys to feed more than 25,000 people this holiday season thanks to the generosity of our Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston real estate team and Butterball, LLC.

From service members at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and Camp Lejeune to neighbors in need in our local communities supported by nonprofits like Raleigh Rescue Mission and the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, our Turkeys for the Triangle birds served to anchor holidays meals and bring cheer in trying times.

We "tossed" out our second and final turkey donation with help from the U.S. Veterans Corps and our kind agents and staff earlier this week and capped off the annual outreach effort today with our exciting raffle drawing at Johnson Lexus of Raleigh.

"I'll tell you what, it's one of those things," said Don Walston, company founder and chairman, as he spoke about the outreach effort. "It's hard to describe the benefit when you see someone who really appreciates what you're doing for them– it's a– I don't know how to describe it, but it's a warm feeling."

Walston began Turkeys for the Triangle nearly 15 years ago after hearing a radio story about a turkey donation effort the "Godfather of Soul" James Brown began in his hometown of Augusta, Ga. "As I rode along listening to the radio, I got to thinking—if James Brown can giveaway 1,000 turkeys, well then, we could too. As we've gotten into this, we've learned that a number of people don't get to have turkey at Thanksgiving and Christmas and it's truly shocking. Our goal is to grow this program to give away 10,000 or 15,000 turkeys each year."

To date, Coldwell Banker Howard Perry Walston's Turkeys for the Triangle program has donated over 30,000 turkeys to feed more than 150,000 people during the holidays.

Gobbling with Gratitude

Our Turkeys for the Triangle program would not be possible without support from a number of local organizations and people.

We've had the tremendous privilege of partnering with Garner-based Butterball, LLC to expand our turkey donations for the past four years. A dedicated program partner, the charitable company donated 1,500 of its sizable Butterball brand birds to Turkeys for the Triangle this year as part of its annual Thanksgiving outreach efforts. "Addressing the needs of the communities where our employees live and work is part of our core values of giving, and through our participation in Turkeys for the Triangle, we are able to serve families in need in the area we call home," said Kerry Doughty, company president and CEO.

Johnson Lexus of Raleigh is another long-standing Turkeys for the Triangle partner we value greatly. Year-after-year, Johnson Lexus of Raleigh has offered up a valuable one-year lease on a new Lexus sedan as the grand prize for our Turkeys for the Triangle. This extraordinary prize is always a crowd favorite!

And, last, but never least, we must pay tribute to our Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston real estate agents and staff, especially annual top ticket salesman Tim McBrayer. We cannot fully express the gratitude we hold for every one of you. Your support of Turkeys for the Triangle is outstanding.

Want to know who won?

Wondering who won the one-year lease on a new 2018 Lexus? Benjamin Passwaters is your man! He will soon get behind the wheel of a new Lexus sedan courtesy of our Turkeys for the Triangle partner Johnson Lexus of Raleigh.

Howard Perry and Walston Open House November 25 and 26Are you out and about chasing down the best Black Friday deals in town? Scoring holiday gifts for your loved ones and friends (and yourself) will be a fantastic feat, but imagine the joy finding your new home will bring.

You may have heard that spring and summer are the time to buy, but there are many reasons you should consider house hunting during the cold winter months.

Buying a Home During the Winter Months

Less Competition

It's common for buyer-competition to thin out in the winter as many people prefer to house hunt during the warmer seasons when the school year is waning.

More Motivated Sellers

Winter home sellers are often more motivated to close a deal than those selling during the peak season. They may be relocating for a job promotion, hoping to get a sale squared away before the new year, or simply ready to get their real estate journey underway.

Discover and Uncover

Winter weather can tax a home. From the roof and gutters to the HVAC, plumbing and drafty doors, cold temperatures may reveal issues that you would otherwise have overlooked in warmer months.

Start Your Search

Let our Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston real estate agents help you find the home you seek. Our listings agents will be happy to host you at their open houses this Saturday and Sunday.
