In the 1800s, the American Tobacco Company was one of Durham's biggest businesses, with a large factory complex located in the heart of the city. The factory complex, located in downtown Durham, featured a large, diverse group of buildings, all designed to accommodate the thriving business of the American Tobacco Company. Today, that same factory complex – now known as the American Tobacco Historic District – is a destination for dining, entertainment, and special events.
